No Burger for Neuberger

While previous projects in the semester had a high degree of conceptualization and planning, the Game Jam assignment forced us to sacrifice the pre-production process in order to maximize our output to adhere to the four hour working period for developing a full-scale game using Unity.

As a group, we kept our concepts simple and went with whatever ideas were immediately plausible for the time restraints. Ideas were built around the guidelines for extra credit; creating a game with one of the professors, making the length five levels long, and adding a soundtrack.

In creating a likable character that related to the experiences of the player, we chose to appropriate the likeness of Professor Lawrence Neuberger. To keep the design simple, the sprite animations were simplified and cartoony in nature. Assets were distributed throughout the group, as the first day was spend mainly developing the graphics and design, while the second day was dedicated to compiling our work and finalizing the game for play.

Challenges experienced were mainly based around the short time period we had to work on the project. Input and distributed work throughout the group was imperative; everyone’s contribution helped develop the game before the deadline. Any absent members and lost time negatively impacted the creative process.

In all, the game was made easier through the experience gained through previous projects. Different group members offered different skill sets and ideas that made the game unique and effective.
