Flower Extreme Close-up Painting

This piece portrays the finer details of a flower, blown up and cropped to bring an emphasis to the center of the flower. The open compositing combined with the winding highlights creates a sense of flow and brings the viewer attention directly to the center of the subject. I used acrylic paints as I enjoyed the rich colors that really make the image pop. The subject itself had a great natural contrast within its color scheme. Further depth was created through the darker shades within the shadows.

The concept of an extreme close-up creates an interesting subject that’s familiar, yet doesn’t draw on preexisting iconography to recognize the subject. I feel one of the strengths of a piece like this is the continuity allowed by the natural highlights that create various organic curves that help accentuate the depth by pushing the tallest areas of the flower into the foreground.
