Exoplanet Explanation Video

Motion graphics are extremely versatile in their use - they can be especially useful in an educational context by utilizing an interesting visual accompaniment to sometimes complex subject matter.
I was tasked with creating a simple explanation video for exoplanets featuring a brief definition as well as a history of our understanding of them. Research for the subject lead me to the major subjects that appeared across multiple publications which were worthy of inclusion. A brief and concise writeup then lead to the audio portion being recorded.
At the same time, 2D assets were created as well. The creative decision was made early on to limit the color palette to only three colors. Despite this, the iconography was clearly recognizable, and the different visuals all had a sense of continuity bridging them together.
Matching motion to the beats of the dialogue were important, as the visuals should support the subject and not detract from it in any way.
Further visual interest was created by making use of the motion blur and lens effects to create clean, seamless transitions. For a project like this, a balance had to be reached between interesting motion that’s relevant and keeping things subdued enough to not distract the audience.
