Engineering Diversity

This short collaborative project was made as a promotional video for the Women Engineers are Pioneers (WEP) Club, which encouraged more diversity within the. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology Department at Alfred State College.
Early on it was decided that our video would consist of a voiceover paired with engineers in the workplace. After settling on a script, we experimented with different voice actors and effects; while it lacked polish, we had settled on a scratch soundtrack for now that gave us a sense of timing and delivery to match our clips to.
Cinematography was handled by a single member to ensure consistency between shots. We felt the most obvious and effective footage to capture is engineering students utilizing the technology of the lab. With little instruction, we had a collection candid footage with closeups emphasizing the specialized tasks and the engineer behind it.
Within the editing stage, we found a natural flow for selected clips to give the piece a nice and even rhythm. Not completely satisfied with the original voiceover, we recruited a new voice actor and eventually found a take we all agreed with.
When compiled together, we found a balance that effectively promoted the diversity and inclusivity of the engineering department.
