Bloo Lagoon Album Cover

This album cover was commissioned for use on digital streaming sites. The spokesperson of the band had a concept that of a manatee that he wanted to see realized in an artistic environment. After initial sketches were approved, I decided Adobe Photoshop would be best suited for the design needs I had envisioned.

Basing my illustration on nature photos, I wanted to have a naturalistic look to the texture and shading of the piece. The pose and general color tone of the piece were representative of the band’s funk/jam style, being a very laid back vibe. In addition to fulfilling the literal use of blue, the color scheme added to this mood.

For the logo, I decided on a sans-serif font that would further reflect the nature of the piece. Further edits were made to have it blend with the style of the piece and have the letters stand out through the outline stroke. The figure-ground relationship makes it easy to discern the subject from a relatively sparse background. Overall, the rhythm of the piece is most important by deliberately sizing each of the elements to convey the proper mood.
